I went to Killykean Forest Park, just outside Cavan, to get break from the Fleadh. I took to the forest for a few hours quiet and chanced upon this Dandelion head which is about the most perfect I have ever come across. I immediately thought of Liam Weldon who wrote a fabulous song called "Jinny-Joe" which is what Dublin kids call the airborne Dandelion seed. Maybe everybody calls it so but it's common in Dublin anyway.
Liam wrote the song for his son Brendan. Liam reckoned that when he cast Brendan into the world, that as his father he had as much control over Brendan's life & destiny as one has over where a "Jinny-Joe" will land when the Dandelion head is blown and the single seed takes off on its own journey.
It's a beautiful song, and in some ways a sad song, but only Liam can sing it. It's taken from his album "Dark Horse on the Wind" and Mulligan have re-released it (a third time!) in 2011. It's a Classic.
